Mayara Swillens grew up in Vista, CA and started coaching in 2022. Her love for volleyball started at the Boys and Girls Club in fourth grade. She joined SoCal‘s local program as a sophomore in high school and moved up to the national teams her junior and senior year, playing as a setter and team captain. Mayara wants to share her love for volleyball with other young players and teach them the skills that she has learned over the years. Mayara hopes to instill confidence in all of her players and create a healthy competitive environment where everyone is able to reach their full potential as an athlete. Mayara has experience and excels at coaching middle school, high school level athletes. Players describe her coaching style as encouraging and uplifting. She wants to motivate her athletes to be the best they can be both on and off the court, and encourage teamwork and positivity. Mayara believes to be successful, a team must have chemistry. There is no I in team and everyone has to work together to achieve a common goal. and she strives to instill this in her athletes. Mayara chose to work at SoCal Volleyball Club because “this club has had a huge impact on my volleyball career. The coaching here is amazing and I knew that I wanted to have a positive influence on other young players lives, just like they had on mine in my time playing here for SoCal”.

When not coaching you’ll find Mayara playing on the women’s indoor and beach volleyball teams at Palomar College here in San Marcos while pursuing a degree in kinesiology in hopes of becoming an athletic trainer or physical therapist. Outside of school and volleyball, she loves spending time with my friends and going to the beach..
