Iona grew up in a small town just outside of Sacramento (Meadow Vista). She was very active as a child playing volleyball, soccer, basketball, and running track and cross country. In high school, she was named MVP of her high school season her Senior year. She got a scholarship to play volleyball at the NCAA Division II California State University, Los Angeles for the Golden Eagles.

In her Sophomore season, Iona received many awards including National Volleyball Player of the Week by AVCA. She finished the season earning All-Conference awards as well as being recognized as an All-American Honorable Mention. The remaining two years were also successfully becoming the school’s first-ever three-time All-American and only the second player in the history of the school to be honored with an Academic All-American award.

Following her senior season, she played a fifth year at CSULA in the inaugural year of the Beach Volleyball team, also Graduate Assisting the indoor program while taking Master’s courses in Exercise Science.

She began her coaching career during her Sophomore year at Nike Elite West in Culver City. She helped coach 4 teams through her time there.

After moving to San Diego, Iona started coaching at SoCal Volleyball Club. She was given the opportunity to take over 2 teams the first year, then followed by coaching another 3 teams. She was also the Assistant Coach for Mira Costa College for their indoor and beach seasons.

Iona believes that she can not only make an impact on the players in volleyball but help them understand skills for the rest of their lives. She focuses on increasing technical skills and understanding for each element in the game.
