Hi SoCaliens!
Aimee here with an important update from the SCVA. This season, the SCVA will implement the use of the PURPLE CARD in response to tournament officials and site personnel complaints of increasingly bad behavior from the parents and spectators.
This is from the SCVA, “Over the past few seasons, the SCVA Region Office has received reports that a number of incidents occurred involving spectator/parent misconduct. This misbehavior consisted of verbal, often profane outbursts directed at court officials, officiating coaches, and junior players, specifically those assigned to line judge. Additionally, there were reports of physical confrontations in the stands during matches. These incidents continue to increase, and as a result of this type of behavior, many new and young officials have quit officiating, reducing the number of certified refs. Also, verbally attacking our junior line judges instills fear and intimidation in them, undermining their self-confidence”.
With this announcement, and even though we are sure that our amazing SoCal parents will only love, support, and encourage our athletes and our opponents, we wanted to be sure all of our parents see the SCVA’s Spectator Code of Conduct, and understand the rules of the “Purple Card.”
Click here to see the sanctions applied for each level of misconduct. The bottom line is that any rude or minor offensive conduct in the match by any parent or spectator is penalized with a point and service to the opponent. That would be bad– not to mention that we are a club of integrity and the demeaning of a child or a referee is absolutely unacceptable. Be Kind, everybody; enjoy watching the kids play, and we’ll see you out there on the courts to celebrate the growth and the joy of our players.
