The college weight room: the work you don’t see

The NAIA and NCAA Women’s Volleyball Championships are happening now, and we’re STOKED! We’ll be streaming multiple matches in the gym so you can cheer on your favorite school. While watching these top athletes compete, remember the preparation behind the scenes.

An element often overlooked by young athletes is the college athletes’ weight room hustle.

The best college teams ❤️ the weight room.

They lift multiple times a week — even during the season.

Why do they do this?

The athletes will tell you the glamorous reasons. Performance training increases their vertical, quickness, and power.

All of which is true.

Talk to the coaches, strength and conditioning staff, and athletic trainers, and they’ll share their primary reason why:
it prevents injuries.

You can train like a college athlete — now!

We recommend that all SoCal Local and Travel members train with JG Performance (inside SoCal Athletics)All ages and skill levels can benefit from performance training.

JP Performance’s supportive instructors, Cogen, Monica, and Tony, challenge athletes with high-intensity interval training (HIIT), plyometric, and functional programming. Kids love the confidence they build on and off the court. And because this program is under the guidance of a volleyball-minded physical therapist, they can stay on the court longer because injury prevention aspects are woven throughout the training.

View current sports performance programs here.
Space is limited and will sell out.

What school are you rootin’ for in the NCAA tournaments? Let us know in your team’s GroupMe!

We’re thankful for you! 🧡

We started this organization when we couldn’t find a competitive and kind volleyball program for our family and friends. As we approach our 20th year, it seems we were on the right track.

We give sincere thanks for your continued support.

🥐 Why are there so many baked goods at the gym on Friday?

There was a time when farmers would allow travelers and neighbors to take food from their fields and orchards as a gift to the community. SoCal follows that tradition with our Orchard’s Edge food share program by offering baked goods from Costco every Friday.  Food waste in the United States amounts for 80 BILLION pounds per year or 242 pounds per person.  We can do better than that, so as a non-profit, we are privileged to receive food from Costco and share it with you for FREE.

Want to participate?  Bring in any extra fruit and vegetables and put it in the bins whenever you like.  Doesn’t have to be on Friday.

Come and get it…life is for sharing.
