At SoCal Volleyball Club, we know practice makes progress. So we want to give your child a head-start on our upcoming Beginner/Intermediate Camps. In this article, Coach Aimee Asebroek shares helpful tips your child can practice right at home to master passing angles, a crucial skill for beginners and intermediate players.

Volleyball is a Rebound Sport!

Understanding volleyball passing is about recognizing that volleyball is all about angles and rebounds. Your arms (your “platform”) tell the ball exactly where to go. The more solid and flat your platform, the better you’ll pass!

At-Home Practice Tip: Use a Kickboard!

Grab a flat household object, like a kickboard or large coffee table book, to visualize and feel the correct angles for your passes.

  • Passing Straight Up: Keep your platform straight out in front of you.
  • Passing Forward Over the Net: Lower your platform and shoulders slightly forward.
  • Passing at an Angle: Set your platform to the angle early, then direct it toward your target.

Quick Tips to Remember:

  • Keep your movements simple and direct.
  • Get your platform ready quickly—no scooping or extra movements!
  • Keep your head engaged to maintain a flat and effective passing angle.

Practice these simple tips at home, and you’ll come into camp ready to impress!
