Note from May 16, 2013
Thank you so much to those of you that came to the first two tryouts. We are pleased with the combined turnout. So far we have had 35+ guys that have expressed interest in the program, which means we will have at least 4 teams, a 12U, 14U, 16U and an 18U team. We look forward to having even more guys at the third and final tryout this Saturday, May 18th 2-4 p.m.
At the end of this tryout, the goal is to have the boys on courts with their teammates and coaches; they will meet with their coaches and be aware of the practice schedule and tournament schedule for their individual teams. The guys will also be sized for uniforms and practice t-shirts. We will acquire any missing information (emails, phone numbers, registration forms, billing information etc.) and make sure that everyone is aware of exactly what to expect for the season, and the summer program that follows.
I will be calling individuals today and this weekend to lock down final rosters. The following coaches will be on staff:
- 18Us, Nick Mercer: Nick is a former UCLA libero, current SMHS Boy's Varsity Assistant, SMHS Head Women's JV Coach, SoCal VBC Club Coach and is actively training and pursuing a professional beach volleyball career on the AVP.
- 16Us, Craig Wilson: Craig is a former Penn State setter, is the current Vista Women's JV Head Coach, SoCal VBC Club Coach and indoor/outdoor player.
- 14Us, John Fessenden: John comes to us from San Clemente and is a former Cal State San Marcos club team member and is the current Boy's JV Assistant Coach at SMHS.
- 12Us, Jordon Tarantino: Jordon has had a very successful college career and is a former outside hitter for Grand Canyon University where he holds the school record for most kills in a game. He coached several club teams in Arizona and is happy to be back in California coaching at SoCal!
